SPIN TOWERS

twirlingtower1.jpgTHESE BUILDINGS WILL NEVER LOOK THE SAME. NOT ONCE IN THEIR LIFETIME. David Fisher
Just when you thought the architecture in Dubai couldn’t get any more lairy, David Fisher came along. Yesterday he revealed what are probably the most extravagant building designs ever seen. These are the world’s first swirling sky-scrapers.

The owner of each floor will be able to control his domain via a laptop, or they can be managed as a whole by a main hub to create amazing dynamic patterns. Each undulating unit spins around a central concrete core, and between each of the 80 layers there is a wind turbine that powers the whole floor, making the building not only more manoeuverable (can’t believe I'm talking about a tower block) but also far greener than its neighbours.

Enjoy this epic introduction. It feels like the husky voiced movie-preview guy is about to kick in, unfortunately he never does. Its still cool though.

cool. but a perfect example of people with far too much money than they not what to do with.

give it to kids in Sierra Leone. or me.

How high is this thing? I'm no engineer but surely the structural integrity of the building, particularly in strong winds, is going to be tested to the limit as a result of the random shapes / edges that could be created?!

The Dubai one is 420 metres (1,380 feet) high. I think the sharp edges probably scatter the wind rather than catch it. I too am no engineer but I imagine a flat sided building acts like a sail in the wind where as the dynamic buildings are so randomly arranged that the wind can't get a good purchase.

Thats probably complete rubbish but i've convinced myself that it's true.
