THE HEART OF THE WORLD

HOW DO YOU REPRESENT THE EMOTIONAL BALANCE OF OUR NETWORKED PLANET?

If we look hard enough - or not hard at all at times - then we can know how a person living thousands of miles away, who we’ve never met before, and no doubt never will, is feeling.

Orbiting the digital blogosphere are people’s myriad emotions, some happy, some sad, all pulling in different directions. Perhaps you could say that blogs represent the emotional balance of the networked planet...

PULSE is a project that, as far as I can tell, tries to show that balance in a physical moving object. It’s a strange little piece that uses the emotions of people on blogger.com to physically change the shape of a surgical looking, blood red bag - seemingly used to symbolise the collective heart of bloggers around the world. At some point the artist, Mark Kison, must have asked himself, “Now how can I physically represent how the world is feeling?” Not the easiest question by any means, yet this is what he came up with.
